Empowering Youth through Environmental Knowledge and Leadership Skills

As a strong believer that empowering youth is part of our responsibility for the betterment of future world, it is aligned with our Mission statement ‘to create a positive difference to the lives of community’. MHB in collaboration with an environmental NGO, EcoKnights, organised MHB 14th Knights of Nature Sustainability Camp (MKON) 2018 for Malaysian youths. MKON 2018 was held at Tanjung Piai, Pontian, Malaysia from 16 August 2018 to 19 August 2018.

35 youths participated in this year’s camp with theme focused on maritime development and communities with an emphasis on mobilising the participants to work on addressing solutions. Apart from widening network and exchanging knowledge and idea, it served as a platform for the youths to engage in hands-on and experiential modules and programmes in sustainability, leadership and maritime development. With aim to develop and harness the characteristics of young leaders with sustainable mind-sets, they learned how to bridge the gap between conservation, communities and address sustainable development and living.

“This programme has inspired me and made me realised youth’s responsibility to sustain the world for future generations. The littlest thing we do, such as cleaning the drains, may contribute in making this planet a healthy and habitable place by all species. With education as the most powerful weapon to change the world, I want to share knowledge that I have learned and will learn with the community around me.”
– Zahira Syeeda, Environment Engineering Student (INTEC Shah Alam)

“I believe that I am able to conduct and manage programme to create awareness for the good cause of our living place with the hands-on skills and experience that I have gained throughout this programme.”
– Soh Zhi Sin, Law Student (Taylor’s University)

“As a youth, I have involved in many voluntary programmes. However, MKON2018 gave me a clearer picture on environmental issues. My message for my generation is no matter in what industry you are in or what you do, every individual needs to be more exposed in all environmental issue as the important role of taking care of the planet is a collective action and it must starts from the within.”
– Lee Junn Kang, Administrative Office
